Americans are really lousy at discussing The Inevitable.
This is a project to get people talking. Maybe you don’t have it all figured out yet. Maybe you don’t have it figured out at all because death terrifies you or because you’re not concerned about it at this point in your life. Maybe your wishes are not able to be carried out in your state (or on this planet) and you don’t even know it. Maybe you are seeking the most environmentally-sound ways of leaving this big, spinning ball and are confused by conflicting reports from the Industry. Maybe – and this seems like a pretty good assumption after hammering on about this topic for a couple of years – maybe you think your wishes will be carried out even though you haven’t explicitly written down and researched the feasibility of what you wish.
There are a lot of questions. I had no idea (NO IDEA) how many questions I’d have once I tried to just fill out a simple form expressing my wishes. And this was after I was already about a year into reading journal articles, watching TED talks, going to lectures, and having dozens of awkward conversations with people. So this is the first and most important step. This is getting us all talking about it. You’re asked a couple of general questions on the topic and the rabbit holes form. What do you want done with your body? Why? Anything else? That’s about it. But boy, it’s so much more than that, isn’t it?
